Hotlist

In Module 8 we learned how to develop a hotlist. Basically, a hotlist is a website that contains links to other websites. An instructor could develop a hotlist website to support the course they are teaching. The hotlist site would contain links to other websties that support or reinforce what is being taught in class. The websites can be listed in different categories, and brief descriptions can be written about each site.

I am not sure how valuable this tool is? Since, if the instructor had e-mail adresses for his or her students, she or he could just e-mail a lsit of links to the students. I guess this tool would be useful for students who do not have e-mail adresses.

Wep Page

In our March 1, 2007 class, we also learned how to develop a web page. We used the software Sea Monkey. I developed a web in one of my former classes many years ago. It was a very difficult and complicated task. Sea Monkey made the process very easy and user friendly. It was almost like using a word processor. We learned how to add photographs, hyperlinks and tables. It was very interesting. The best part of Sea Monkey, is that it is free to download.

I don't think I would use this skill and knowledge at work, since we have dedicated "Web Developer" person and they must develop and screen all content. But I think I might use at home. Maybe create a family website.

Digital Imaging

In our March 1, 2007 class, we were introduced to the concept of digital imaging. The concept of taking digital pictures was not new to me, since I use a digital camera both at work and at home. However, some of the other topics introduced were new to me. We learned about how to take pictures at different angles, and we learned 10 different ways to frame pictures. We also learned how to edit the pictures. After we learned about these different theories, we were split into teams of two and given digital cameras. We then proceeded to go out into the field and capture these pictures. We then returned to the computer lab were we edited and saved the pictures. It was fun and good learning experience.

Digital Movie

In our February 1, 2007 class, Shannon, Ranjeet and myself made a digital movie. We followed the instructions that were provided in class. These included taking the proper framed shots and then editing them afterwards. However, the most interesting part of our experience was getting"kicked out" of the The Owl. In our wisdom, we decided to take video footage of the Owl. While taking the footage, the manager of The Owl, confronted and scolded us. She informed us of privacy laws and asked us to erase our footage of staff. Very interesting experience, to say the least.
